Over the years, you may have seen things like “National Pet Day” or “National Coffee Day” on your Instagram or Facebook. While some of these foster connections, others focus on spreading an important message. That’s the case with “World Smile Day.” To learn about the history and how you and your family can get involved this year, read on!
The History of World Smile Day
In the age of social media, emojis are commonplace. However, the original smiley face icon was created by an artist named Harvey Ball. He created this iconic symbol with the goal of spreading joy, compassion, and kindness, creating a ripple-effect of positivity in the process. In the decades since, the image has been commercialized and used to the point where its original meaning has been lost. That’s why World Smile Day is important. It spreads awareness about the origin and, in turn, what you can do to be a part of making the world a better place.
How You Can Get Involved This Year
Sharing a smile goes a long way. So, this October 4th, make an intentional effort to look for chances to share joy, compassion, and kindness – whether it’s with friends, neighbors, coworkers, or the people you pass while running errands. If you and your family want to take it a step further, you can also look for serve opportunities in your community. Around this time of year, there are often classroom supply drives, Halloween candy donations, Thanksgiving meal trains, and toy drives. All you need to do is find the cause (or causes) that resonate most with you!
About the Practice
Serving others doesn’t just mean providing exceptional dentistry and orthodontics for kids. It also means giving back to the community we love so much. Our team at Simply Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics is proud to be a part of the Simply Doing Good network, which has allowed us to do just that. In addition to supporting local sports teams, we collected almost 1,100 classroom supplies for our first “Teachers are Superheroes” drive. Plus, we host a Toys for Tots charity drive each year during the holidays. So, if you are looking for opportunities to give back, or you have an organization that you’d like to share with us, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via our website or by phone at (603) 880-5002.
