Frequently Asked Questions, Answered!

Whether you’re new to the area and looking for a kid’s dentist near you or you’ve been visiting us for years and want to learn more about braces for your child, you might have lots of questions on your mind. Rest assured, we’re always just a phone call away, and we’d be happy to provide you with the answers you’re looking for. In the meantime, you can read on; we’ve answered several FAQs below!

What level of education is required to be a dentist?

After graduating from high school, the aspiring dentist must earn their undergraduate degree and be accepted to one of only 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S. Once they are admitted, they begin rigorous in-classroom and hands-on training. This usually takes three years and culminates in them earning their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS).

The 7+ years of schooling mentioned above is just to be a dentist. To be a specialist, like a pediatric dentist or an orthodontist, they must undergo additional training. Dr. Clancy, for example, attended the University of Illinois, which led to him earning his Master of Science degree in Oral Biology. Now, he is board-certified and a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry as well!

How do I get emergency dental care for my child?

We know just how stressful and painful a dental injury can be for you and your child. That’s why we do our best to be there when your family needs us most! In addition to offering morning, lunchtime, and afternoon appointments throughout the week, we offer calming sedation dentistry to alleviate anxiety and welcome several financial solutions to ensure handling the financial side of the care needed isn’t stressful either. Simply put, we’re here to help, so don’t hesitate to give us a call – whether your child is struggling with a persistent toothache or a completely knocked-out tooth.

What do you do if you can't afford a dentist?

There’s a common misconception that dentistry is expensive. The truth is that neglect is expensive. In other words, if your child doesn’t come in for biannual visits and doesn’t take good care of their teeth at home, there’s a good chance that they will require extensive restorative care. Conversely, if they adopt good habits, like brushing consistently and coming to our office twice a year for a checkup and cleaning, it’s much less likely that they will need root canals, tooth extractions, and the like.

It's also important that we mention here that we offer several financial solutions to help make the cost of essential preventive and restorative care as affordable as possible. In addition to welcoming dental insurance and MassHealth, we happily accept flexible financing with CareCredit and offer periodic specials.

If you want to learn more about the financial side of your child’s treatment, don’t hesitate to let us know! We’d be happy to answer any questions you have, provide you with further details, and do anything else we can to make navigating the cost easy.
